[ What is happening right now ........ He's not expert on mantis behaviour, but now he's feeling like he ought to pick up a book on it. The pose is definitely some attempt at being threatening, but instead it just looks really silly. He'll still take this as a threat though, keeping his movements measured in hopes that Mikasa doesn't suddenly decide to lunge at him. She may be a silly insect-person right now, but she's still Mikasa, so she could still kick his ass if she wanted to. ]
I'm not gonna take your ... bug. [ That poor butterfly. It had some pretty, glowing wings too. ] Let's just calm down right now ...
[Those large black eyes don't move away as she uses the few seconds it takes for him to move to swallow. Bye bye butterfly. It is very much eaten. The fae doesn't stop staring though.
Then finally she blinks. Large pupil slowly shrinking down to a normal size, only just visable on her grey eyes. But both it and compound eye blink again at him. Then she opens her mouth to speak an-
[ It does look like she's calmed down, if the way her pupils shrink back to normal are any indication. Jean casts a glance at the dismembered wing falling gently to the ground. It's very unfortunate. ]
So. Did that ... taste good, at least? [ He doesn't really know what to say about this. ]
[There's a delayed reaction. For a second she's still just there, opening her mouth and giving a little cough. Squinting. Slowly looking at the wing instead of Jean. It had to happen right in front of someone again, didn't it?]
...They taste dusty.
[Probably for good reason if small amounts of fine powder that dusted her lips and the patch of missing colour from the fallen wing. Butterflies and moths = not great, too much wing.]
[Wow Jean, just wait till you hear that people actually cook bugs.]
I...[Yup, she's turning red. Gradually, it grows all the way along to the pointy tips of her ears as she doesn't' look at him. The ground is much more interesting.] I normally blank out when it happens and don't realise.
[If he'd looked into monsters and bond, he might have learnt that was a side effect of a feral monster. Her bond was not the best for stopping the smaller slip-ups.]
[ His words were blunt and direct before, same as they always are, and delivered with little consideration for how the other party might receive them. It's likely that brusque way of speaking can be taken as annoyance, and that could be the reason he's seeing Mikasa looking sheepish about her actions now. He wasn't annoyed? Just incredulous about the understandably bizarre situation. ]
Has this been happening more and more recently? It's quite troubling to hear that you black out.
[ There's not much of an issue if she only attacks bugs or even small creatures (unfortunate, but not as bad as it could be). It would be an issue if she were to attack people. He definitely wishes he could do more about finding her a bond. ]
[The embarrassment at being caught slowly dies down. Because she'd had that conversation before, a warning from another monster. Then the last time she'd blacked out for more than just a few seconds...Because while small creature would probably count Tataru, the tiny witch was very much a person.]
It has. Not long before you arrived I was out for almost a whole night. [When she'd returned covered in blood and scraps of fur.]
A whole night ... [ He's definitely alarmed hearing that. That's a lot that could have happened in a night. Mikasa would never hurt someone without reason, but he's come to learn that these feral instincts are senseless. She's still strong and could definitely injure someone if compelled to against her will. There's also the danger of her running into trouble and being captured or hurt in the process. With his propensity to think of all the worst-case scenarios, too many harrowing possibilities are going through his mind.
He frowns, voice becoming stern. ] I don't like the sound of that at all. You have to find a witch bond. Even if it's just a temporary one -- Who knows what you could get up to during such a long blackout?
[A lot did happen. She's ripped a jackalope to shreds, and for a second she scratches at her arm. The fabric pulling up to show some chitin. Some chitin that wasn't in great condition, like it had touched something hot enough to melt the surface leaving the small imprints of claws. Where Mettaton's iron hands had grabbed her to stop her biting. Then there was Tataru... Who was fine with Mikasa biting her ear. Because the last time someone bit her, they'd nearly eaten her whole arm.]
I know...That's why I got a bond. [A monster one but still.] It's happened less since. [Bit it was still happening pretty often, as he'd seen.] I don't know many witches and they tend to be...Smarter. [RIP Tendou. But she didn't want a smart witch who'd be able to pick up on her feelings enough to question them, or control her through the bond.] I can think of two but they both already have bonds.
[ Mikasa dresses quite modestly, so it's rare that he really gets to see much of her skin at all. He knows her changes are present and probably growing worse by the day, but there's no way for him to know the full brunt of it without seeing it all (and that's ... not an option). ]
What happened there ...? [ The small imprints visible on her chitin, he means. It looks like something that could have hurt, but he doesn't actually know how sensitive her exoskeleton-like outer layer is. ]
[They seemed to grow in bursts. Eat during the month, stock up on energy, then use it all to grow more shell. The feeling of the chitin was weird. Where it was still growing down her arms, it itched. But where it had finished, her neck, her back, it just felt like where her fingernails connected. Same for how touch felt through it, like there was a thin layer between.
Mikasa wasn't sure how the imprint felt. She brought a hand up, fingers pressing against the indents. Her hands...Whoever had grabbed her was a lot larger, she could have fit two of her fingers in the space where one of their's had pressed. Even Jean's hand would have been too small. She wilts, antenna drooping. But she doesn't hold back, only hesitating as she thinks of the words.]
I attacked Mettaton, he's made of metal so it burnt me when he pushed me back. It would have been a lot worse if I'd managed to bite him.
[If just a few seconds started to melt through her chitin...]

Is this a common thing now? [ Just so he can mentally prepare himself for next time.]
